Intelligent Octopus Go: tariff explained (2026)

Intelligent Octopus Go is Octopus Energy's smart tariff built specifically for electric-vehicle owners. It hands control of your charging to Octopus, which automatically tops your car up at the cheapest, greenest times overnight, and it gives your whole home a much cheaper off-peak rate during a guaranteed nightly window. It is one of the lowest overnight EV-charging rates on the UK market.

What is Intelligent Octopus Go?

Intelligent Octopus Go is Octopus Energy's smart tariff built specifically for electric-vehicle owners. It hands control of your charging to Octopus, which automatically tops your car up at the cheapest, greenest times overnight, and it gives your whole home a much cheaper off-peak rate during a guaranteed nightly window. It is one of the lowest overnight EV-charging rates on the UK market.

Who it’s best for

  • Anyone who owns an electric vehicle and charges it at home — this is where the tariff really pays off
  • People with a compatible EV or a compatible smart charger (such as Ohme, Andersen or Octopus Charge), plus a working smart meter
  • Households happy to set a target charge level and leave the timing to Octopus rather than babysitting plug-in times
  • Night owls and shift-friendly homes who can run dishwashers, washing machines, batteries or hot water during the cheap window — the low rate covers all your home's electricity, not just the car

How it works

You connect your eligible EV or charger to the Octopus app and tell it how much charge you want by when. Octopus then reads live wholesale price signals and automatically schedules your charging for the cheapest, often greenest periods — including extra cheap slots outside the main window, so your car can charge at the low rate even at odd hours. On top of that, every night from 11:30pm to 5:30am your entire home draws electricity at the cheap off-peak rate, so anything you can shift into that six-hour window costs less too. There is no manual claiming and no juggling timers; the app handles the scheduling, and you can switch to it free of charge once you are an Octopus customer. As with all Octopus plans, the electricity is 100% renewable, and exact rates vary by region and change with the market — always check the current price on octopus.energy.
